Welcome back to the RedIn30 Reading Cycle. Today is Day Eleven, and our reading is Mark chapters 3–5. This month’s theme remains central: reestablishing the norm—seeing how Jesus restores what life was always meant to look like.
What I love about these chapters is how Jesus brings normalcy back to society, culture, and even family. So often, in the culture we live in—no matter where we are—the way of the masses tends to define “normal.” We adopt mass-minded definitions and cultural ways of doing things that may not align with God’s ways or with our true identity as children of God.But Jesus confronts that.He reestablishes what family really is—not by societal standards, but by God’s original design. At the end of Mark chapter 3, Jesus asks:“Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?”Then He answers His own question:“Whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”Here, He resets our understanding of family.
God is the Father.
We are His offspring. If we’re His offspring, then we’re made in His image and likeness—with the same essence that’s in Him ingrained in our DNA, woven into our very makeup. This is the normal way of being children of God.⸻In chapters 4 and 5, we see this same theme continue through parables and miracles. One powerful moment happens when Jesus calms the storm. He’s sleeping peacefully in the ship when a violent storm arises. The disciples panic, wake Him up, and Jesus responds:“Peace, be still.”Then He asks them:“Why are you so fearful?”Later, when a woman’s daughter is pronounced dead, people say to the family:“Don’t bother the Teacher anymore. Your daughter is already dead.”But Jesus turns to them and says:“Be not afraid. Only believe.”⸻This reveals something profound:The normalcy of belief is what overcomes fear—and even death. It’s not normal to be fearful.
It’s not normal to be filled with anxiety.
The normal state of life for those who are one with God is faith—a fearless, anchored faith.⸻As you read Mark 3–5 today, remember this:
Being full of faith isn’t extraordinary.
It’s not rare or out of reach. It’s the normal posture of those who know they’re one with God.And truly—what else could make us more fearless than that?Enjoy today’s reading
